Extreme pain in ovaries is not very usual, but can be experienced by women at any point of their life time. Nearly eighty percent women are found to experience extreme pain in ovaries at least once in their life span. Extreme pain in ovaries might be due to various reasons; however the main reason is due to the presence of ovarian cysts.
Cysts are nothing but small pouches filled with fluid which can shape up inside or above the ovaries even during regular menstrual cycle. But most of the ovarian cysts are benign in nature that it does not require much attention. These ovarian cysts which cause extreme pain in ovaries normally disappear after one or two menstrual cycles.
But there are certain types of cysts like the cystadenoma which can be formed over the ovaries. They contain sticky gel like fluid inside them and can result in extreme pain in ovaries as they can grow to a very big size. Dermoid cysts too can cause extreme pain in ovaries and are found to be different in nature as they can grow teeth, hair and tissue resembling a baby and even to the size of the baby. Apart from the extreme pain in ovaries the sufferer also can experience pain near the thighs, lower back, buttocks and abdomen.
