Menstruation is a period which marks the starting of the process where the womb or uterus gets prepared for becoming pregnant. Every month a thin lining known as the endometrium of the uterus is shed by the body causing a period and newer lining replaces it after it is shed. Some women during their early stages might experience pain in the ovary before the periods and it subsides when they grow older.

But some women even in their child bearing stages might experience pain in the ovary before periods, which might be due to various other reasons. The pain in ovary before period and menstruation process is controlled mainly by four hormones (progesterone, LH, FSH, Oestrogen) that are released by the pituitary gland and the ovaries.

Pain in ovary before period might be triggered due to stress, anxiety and depression which can be overcome by doing some exercise that help in the release of endorphins (natural pain killer of the body) or by doing meditation or yoga.

If the pain in ovary before period worsens, the sufferer should see a doctor immediately and get it treated as soon as possible. Sometimes chemicals such as prostaglandins might also cause pain in ovary before period which can be avoided by consuming simple drugs that kill the pain such as mefenamic acid and aspirin.
