Pain near ovary is normally harmless but very occasionally can lead towards serious conditions. Prolonged and severe pain near the ovary region should not be ignored and taken carelessly as it can be a symptom of different health conditions apart from the presence of ovarian cysts. Some of the medical conditions related to pain near the ovary region are given below:

Women with pelvic inflammatory disease (chronic) following infection can cause pain near the ovary region. The same way fallopian tube inflammation and infection called Salpingitis can also lead to pain near ovary. Endometriosis is a condition where the endometrium or womb lining growing in other regions or locations such as bowels and symptoms includes painful sex and pain during menstrual periods. Pain near ovary might also be due to the formation of ovarian cysts which are nothing but abnormal fluid sacs developed in the ovaries.

Ectopic pregnancy is a condition where pregnancy is developed in the exterior region of the womb most often in any one of the tubes (fallopian). The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are pain in the abdomen, cramping and vaginal bleeding. In such circumstances, the sufferer should be treated immediately. In order to determine if the pain near the ovary is due to infection or harmless includes blood tests, abdominal ultrasound, cervical cultures, complete body checkup along with pelvic examination, medical history, vaginal ultrasound and so on.
